Feels like that last one is gonna cause a big issue in the first few weeks at some point lol
Declaring an onside kick is still a stupid rule
Can we have that last one for the regular refs that suck at their job, not just in the event of replacement refs that suck at their job slightly more?
No.way they make that last rule unless they were sure they’d be using the replacement refs this year
Ngl they should bin off the declare a onside
Its entirely unclear to me what the middle two rules mean
Rule four is brought you by Draft Kings
That last rule just needs to become: Allow coaches to use their challenges on penalties, award 1 additional challenge for a total of 3 per coach.
I…DECLARE…ONSIDE KICKKKKKK
At least there’s now the option to rip an on-side kick at any point in the game, even though it likely won’t change much due to the declaration.
The change that “eliminates the kicking team’s incentive to kick out of bounds” is vaguely worded and doesn’t tell us what the actual change is. It sounds like it’s trying to remove the situation where you kick the ball into the landing zone and it rolls into the end zone/out of bounds, which results in a spot at the 20?
Edit: forgot the kickoff is supposed to be from the 35 and not the 50 lol. So basically if there was a 15-yard penalty that resulted in a kickoff at the 50, since the landing zones and stuff didn’t change, if the kicking team kicked a touchback, the receiving team got the spot at the 35. So instead, they’d kick the ball straight out of bounds, which resulted in a penalty where the ball was placed 25-yards from the spot of the kick, which was further away than if the kickoff was done normally.
So this rule-change is to say “ok, stop making us throw a flag for the hell of it.” So now, if there’s a 15-yard penalty that results in a kickoff from the 50, teams can pop a touchback and the spot is at the 20, which is 15-yards back from where the usual touchback would be. That makes a lot of sense.
That last one is gonna be big but I’m curious about the second one. What do you mean “the incentive for kicking team to kick ball out of bounds when kicking off from the 50 yard line?” Is that not already covered by the penalty for a kickoff OOB or the touchback spot?
I’m out here putting in work. My LinkedIn is updated and I’m applying to be a new ref for the NFL.
Don’t worry fam, I got us. Expect a lot of holding calls going against our NFC South opponents in 2026-27 😤✊
No more input from “New York” on referee decisions, whether they are replacements or not. When the referee makes a decision to throw a flag or not, and that decision gets overrode by (ostensibly) “New York” it looks really suspect, undermines the job the referees are doing, and usually when they overturn it is not even the correct call
Knowing our luck, we will suffer heartbreaking losses due to the last one. For the better part of the last decade, the Panthers have been plagued by missed calls that could have completely changed the outcome of a drive which leads to the opposing team getting points that fuck us in the end. We always have been 1-2 plays away that always get missed from a win. It has happened for years. We’re just the “lowly” panthers. We don’t get those calls.
I have a feeling that suddenly this upcoming season, our luck will change, the refs will miss a big call that would’ve led to us winning for once only to have it now reviewed and we get fucked in the end regardless. Just watch. How do you do the remind me bot? I know this will happen to us quite often now.
