[O’Connor] Tocchet on Martone playing RW & TK moving to LW:

  1. Canadian playing natural position: 👍

    Russian playing natural position: ☠️

  2. Have we beaten Tocchet into submission regarding keeping Mich on the right wing?

  3. There appears to be some kind of irony here, but I can’t quite put my finger on it…

  4. He’s not wrong, but wildly unfortunate quote considering all the context💀

  5. I cannot believe how bad he is with the media, bc this is going to make a lot people really unhappy for good reason

  6. Oh, so you’d rather Porter play RW (his natural position, because he’s used to it), but we gotta have Michkov on the left because he’d be better there defensively? Hmm, something something double standards, something something biased towards Russians, something something inconsistency

  7. People are acting like this is a sign Tocchet hates Michkov but it’s Martones first game and one of only a few he’s gonna have. There isn’t time for him to learn a new position, while Tocchets goal this year was to see if Michkov could convert, which he hasn’t shown he can, so he’s back on RW now too.

I know this subs hate boner for Tocchet is longer and stronger than the Walt, but this doesn’t mean anything. It’s not just the right call it’s the only one

  8. Pretty sure he’d be playing Michkov on his natural side if it were his first NHL game too, but let’s not miss an opportunity to ignore all context and nuance, and continue blowing everything out of proportion. We had too much blood in our cortisol systems anyway.

  9. I want Martone shifting to LW eventually. Not only because we have too many RW’s, but his one-timer is really good and being on your off-wing always help you in the offensive zone. I understand why they want to start him at the RW for now though.

    Tocchet’s hypocrisy is hilarious though.

  10. I really hate to be the Tocc defender because I don’t like him as a coach but this is not hypocritical at all. MARTONE SHOOTS RIGHT – he likes when people play their strong side, that’s why he didn’t want Michkov WHO SHOOTS LEFT on the right wing

  11. People seem to not understand the nuance……. Theres a massive difference between trying a guy at LW in year 2 of his career and game 1……… Like people dont seem to understand almost all our Wingers natural sides are RW. Foerster, Konecny, Tippett, Martone and Michkov. I think Barkey as well. Guys are going to have to play LW. You got 5 guys wanting to play in a position with only 3 spots. As with most things your older players typically have dibs just like with Jersey numbers

Great players have that versatility in their game to play either side.

  12. Im ok playing someone on their off wing, it shouldnt be a huge deal. However it clearly negatively affected michkov and to continue doing so for 50 games is the problem. Someone between him tk and martone has to play LW and I’m sure someone can

  13. Michkov played all last year and the first fucking month at right wing holy shit you guys are so annoying

AND he’s back at right wing

  14. Ya know what, I’m just going to take it as a win that he is giving nuance to breaking a young guy in at the position that is most comfortable for him.

All other context I choose to ignore.

  15. I know everyone will already have their pitchforks out over this comment, but I’ll try to add some logic anyway.

I’m sure he’s way more comfortable having one player one their offhand side (TK and Martone) than both (TK and Michkov).

  16. I’m actually excited about this, but fuming knowing that the kid hasn’t even played an Tock’s dumbass is already treating him leaps and bounds better than Meech

  17. Barkey – Zegras – Tippett

    Konecny – Dvorak – Martone

    Bump – Cates – Michkov

    Glendening – Coots – Hathaway

Grebenkin probably gets sent down once Foerster returns, as both Barkey/Bump have made a more significant impact. Albeit, Tocchet’s usage of Grebenkin early in the season was baffling, and probably led to his inefficient stat line. But if I had to bet on it, I’d say Grebs is the odd man out. It then looks like:

Foester – Zegras – Tippett (pretty nasty if you ask me)

    Konecny – Dvorak – Martone

    Barkey – Cates – Michkov

    Bump – Coots/Glendening – Hathaway/Coots

  18. Not mad about it but it is funny given the previous talk.

Martone has a better shot at playing LW (he has for a little bit) than Mich does, and I’d love to have them on the same line or at least PP unit.

  19. So is this kid really good like Gauthier or another TK kind of prospect, good but not great?
