Back in 2006, pick No. 52 turned into one hell of a value.

Greg Jennings gave Green Bay years of high-level production, became one of the most reliable receivers of his era, and was a major piece of some very good Packers teams.

It is a good reminder that the draft is not just about the top 10 or even the first round. Real difference-makers are still sitting there in Day 2 if you scout well and trust your board.

20 years later, with the Packers holding No. 52 again in this year’s draft, it is a nice little bit of history to remember. You never know when a pick turns into your next major hit.

Do you think the Pack can strike gold once again at No. 52?

Throwback Thursday: With pick No. 52 in the 2006 NFL Draft, the GB Packers select Greg Jennings, WR.

  1. The Packers have struck so many key players in the 2nd round.

I think there was even a post showing how we are i think a top 3 team in success rate/value for 2nd round picks for the last like 20 years. Especially with WRs. Jennings, Nelson, Cobb, Adams, Watson and Reed were all 2nd rounders.

  2. I remember being mad they traded Javon Walker for a 2nd round pick and then passed on Chad Jackson with pick 37 because they traded down, but it ended up working out for the best

  3. Biggest impact rookie we had at WR. When he came on, his position coach compared him to Marvin Harrison for his knowledge and route running. He was legit. Better than any receiver we have right now, as a rookie. I know he went off the rails a bit later on. But if we could have an impact rookie of the level of Greg Jennings, we’d be a much stronger team right now.

  4. They actually traded down with New England before making this pick. The Patriots took Chad Jackson, a receiver a lot of people wanted the Packers to pick and then Green Bay was “stuck” with the shorter, slower guy from a smaller school. Ted was in his bag this draft.

  5. I miss this man so much. He was a great packer. Idc about the drama. Also, that hitch they showed in his college highlights is like the exact play I envision him catching over and over again when he was with the packers lol

  6. Is no one gonna mention how packer legend, Big Dog, also shows up in the ticker?

  7. Tamba Hali… havent heard that name is a while. He was a beast. Vikings had some decent picks that year too

  8. Careers are so wild in the NFL when was the last time Jennings played? Lewis in the same draft might still be on a team this year.

  9. Round two is honestly where the best talent typically shakes out for most team. They are either over looked for one reason or another, or people they think are a reach. The first round tends to have way more busts statistically speaking. It also yields a ton of HOF’ers, but it’s a heck of a lot harder to land on one.

  10. Used to be one of my favorite players until he left GB and then proceeded to talk lots of shit about Rodgers and the Packers organization.

  11. My dad and I got to meet him in person at the 2007 Draft Day party at Lambeau Field. We were heading up the escalator and a woman walks up and asks us “Hey guys, what do you think about last year’s draft pick Greg Jennings?” Of course we were complementary of the pick…she hands us two passes and then ushers us to a suite where he is. It was about a dozen or so of us. Pretty cool day.

  12. we need another Greg Jennings. Dude would carry drives on his own with short routes and was fast enough to create some ridiculous separation when going deep. Also extremely durable he was always on the field.
