The end of the year came last Friday, when Golden State’s season of torment was euthanized in a play-in tournament loss to the Phoenix Suns.

The general belief among the Warriors – openly expressed by Draymond Green – and around the league since the weekend is that Kerr will be comfortably jobless after meeting with Lacob and Dunleavy. Most expect a decision in a matter of days, not weeks.

Yet Kerr last week left open the possibility – very slight, according to sources – of returning. Multiple sources indicate his decision, however, will not be based on the dollar amount.

  1. This offseason is crazy Billy + Kerr moving on, next thing you know the heat will enter a rebuild and Spo will resign or something lol.

  2. “Doc, can Draymond still be the power forward for a championship team?”

“I don’t know the answer to that right now.”

  3. He should sign with Chicago. That would be quite the story if he were able to take them to at least the ECF.

  4. if that’s true, what a run for Kerr.

I don’t see him coaching another team with all he’s accomplished, especially with his back problems.

Won’t be surprised he retires from coaching and go broadcasting.

  5. Honestly there isnt much excitement in coaching a rebuild.

Not only is it a rebuild but its a bad one because warriors havent been stashing picks or anything. The only asset they have is curry and hes only going if and where he wants which means you wont get a massive haul back for him.

Warriors were the kings before steph and could easily become the kings again

  6. I doubt Steve will go back into coaching after this. His legacy is kinda sealed with the Warriors. Not sure why he’d start fresh with a new org.

  7. Somewhat surprised he’s not getting a 2-year extension to coach Steph out for his final years.

But he probably sees the writing on the wall like Bob Myers did – no harm in going out before it gets any worse.

  8. I really expected him to line up his end with Curry’s. I don’t want to accept this.

  9. If they do move on, that would be the end of a huge run. Curious whether the front office wants a full style reset or just a shorter-term voice change around the same core.

  10. Damn I always thought he was gonna retire with Steph and Dray, sucks man this season was a loss for injuries.

  11. Steve Kerr has to be one of the most level headed coaches to coach a pro sport. You can’t be mad at the guy for thinking through all of his options at this stage in his illustrious basketball career as a coach and a player.

  12. I think he’ll come back for one last season. If 2026-27 is the last season for Curry, Butler, and Green, I doubt they’d wanna play for a rookie HC.

  13. Every time this is posted the headline changes a little more to make it look like he’s leaving, even though there is no new information.

    People are shameless for attention

  14. Todd Golden please

I love Kerr for what he’s done for this franchise. He’s a fantastic coach, even if some Warriors fans would blame him for everything. Over the past few years he managed rotations the best he could with the talent he had.
