CHICO, Calif. — The Chico Area Recreation and Park District (CARD) has named Tennis Court One at Community Park after lifelong resident Jerry Brayton.
Brayton has built a 24-year legacy teaching tennis in the community. CARD leaders say he’s maintained a consistent presence on Court One, playing seven days a week, rain or shine.

Over his career, Brayton has conducted thousands of tennis lessons, helping beginners build skills and confidence while inspiring players of all ages to cultivate a lasting love for the game.
The tribute serves to acknowledge and celebrate Brayton’s contributions to the community of more than two decades.
“This is what CARD is about, identifying those folks that we’re aligned with, how we want people to access recreation, how we want to inspire people to participate in recreation. Somebody like Jerry is just a perfect example of that, not only dedication, but the legacy and the number of people that showed up is a really strong demonstration of his legacy,” said Scott Schumann, Assistant General Manager at CARD.
