I’ll probably update this monthly, but this compares each team’s performance through the same point of the season (as of 1/15/26).
The offensive rating stood out the most, didn’t realize we were 2nd at this point last year.

Womp womp and Kat still look unhappy, bridges still going missing.
Keep in mind this was with Mitch out last year
Our offensive rating was great in the first half of last season then dropped off after January
What was the strength of schedule
I mean, we were also playing our starters way more minutes than other teams.
My eyes never lie.
This doesn’t mean shit. Completely different year , completely different schedule. All teams are different every season.
Just a very poor comparison.
lol don’t tell the doomers
The Pistons are the first seed this year, last year they were the 6th seed
The Spurs, Raptors, 76ers & Suns weren’t even playoff teams last year
Magic are better than last season
This is a brand new season, things are different than last season.
I’m mostly an observer, but this is an absolute “duh” stat.
Thibs played his starters more minutes and ran them to the ground, Brown spreads his bench more. Of course their Net RTG is going to take a dip.
With Mitch out for most of the year and a worse bench.
not a coaching issue. the roster stinks. both are flawed coaches.
This is with Hart missing games, KAT underperforming significantly compared to last year. Also while going deeper into the bench and playing raw players. All while implimenting a new system and ball movement/pace.
So in context this is actually a very encouraging comparison.
It is a very rough patch now, but if they come out of it they track to be considerably better by years end.
We also have a stronger sos in 41 games this year then last season and more games missed from players then last year and that’s including missing Mitch last season.
Our team is also not playing heavy minutes
We playing a tough stretch but big picture wise we are fine
Also this year has Brown being willing to experiment and let the young guys play, and starters playing less minutes even when healthy. It’s a choice to sacrifice in the regular season for strength in the post season.
Of course you didn’t realize the offense was good, the way people talked in here you would’ve thought they were struggling to score 100 every night
For what it’s worth, here’s my take.
We’ve dealt with injuries all year and Mike brown has done this with our ENTIRE team and a pretty underwhelming version of KAT. Our record started to decline when we went back to playing a smaller rotation like last year.
Also, if we look back to the beginning of the year, we were playing browns new system and this team was thriving. More recently it has looked like thibs style of play.
I like both of these coaches and I like our squad but we still have work to do.
People keep bringing up the injuries this year, so Thibs “running guys into the ground” doesn’t cause injuries I guess. We were one of the healthiest teams in the NBA during the Thibs run.
The biggest knock against Thibs was never using a bench in playoff games. If Brown can get the Knicks into competitive shape (not whatever that Kings game was) hopefully the bench can push the Knicks further this year than previous ones. Kolek is showing how valuable minutes can be to young, developing players. Come playoffs, he could get hot like he did a couple weeks ago and really move the needle for the second unit.
The big difference is that Thibs didn’t have much of a gameplan and let KAT kind of do what he wanted. In theory, Brown’s style was supposed to unlock KAT and get him more open shots. The numbers say it has but he’s not hitting those shots like last year.
Also, probably the biggest issue is that in both what he looks like on the court and what he’s said I don’t think KAT has bought into Brown’s system at all.
Thibs had his blemishes but he had the squad at top tier shape and focused.
Numbers have their place and injuries aside, this is a new system that takes time to ramp, we are in a slump now, and this team has proven it can win playoff like games in the cup and against some good competition. the team looks tired and in a rut since the cup – have to hope things get better again after the ASB
The problem, of course, now exacerbated by Brunson’s injury, is that the Knicks lose to inferior teams and can’t win on the road.
Uh oh
Last year’s team had two new starters and we needed to get used to each other. This year’s team came in with one year under their belt including 3 playoff series and playing in a weaker eastern conference. I think the issue was not Thibs, it’s the two major trades that we made.
Why are ya comparing his last year va Mike brown first year let’s compare both of them first years
Thibs issue was his stubbornness in the playoffs. He just over worked dudes.
We’re fine, iirc we didn’t have this many injuries to the starters last year.
well hopefully this means the turnaround is coming bc we knocked off an amazing streak right after that 27th win last year
So about the same, it looked so promising the first two months, not so much this month at all. Let’s hope they can regain that magic.
All I’ll say is the season is in progress, let’s let everything playout. There’s still a lot to happen, potentially. Moves to make, chemistry to build, rotations to solidify, O& D adjustments. Ultimately, it’s coming down to playoff success.
Start of the season (before new years) we had the best net rating in the east, well above detroit, and like top 3 in the league.
Mike Brown’s peak is better than thibs could ever be, but thibs was far more consistant when it came to putting away push off teams.

That dip is on the coach and the D schemes
