EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – North baseball is back at Semi-State for the first time in 20 years, and they are ready to make the most of it.
After getting past Castle in the sectionals and Seymour in the regional, it will be two defense-focused teams in the Huskies against North Central. This is certainly new territory for this team as well, but this is a squad led by a group of seniors more than determined to leave their mark.
“Going out as a senior, you want to leave your stamp on North High School Baseball. You work, you have like six years in the program and you don’t want to go out without leaving your own unique stamp, it’s cool being able to be a part of this,” said Senior Pitcher Braden Perry.
“We’ve got to stay in it. It’s been a long season, but we’ve only got a few games left. We’ve got to finish out strong, and finish out with a bang. We haven’t been past sectionals in a really long time, so just getting this far is huge, so we’ve got to finish out strong and see how far we can make it,” said Senior Centerfielder Mason Renfro.
Now the team may not have reached this point in a long time, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t prepared. Their tough competition throughout the regular season has them ready.
“The SIAC is tough, it’s a tough conference and you see good pitching every single week and it’s really prepared us for the post-season. I think our guys use that, we Castle, we saw Harrison, we saw Seymour last week, we’ve just done a better job at the plate putting runs on the board,” said Head Coach Jeremy Jones.
First pitch between North and North Central is at 10AM Central time on Saturday in Mooresville.
