On Wednesday, the Roswell Invaders hosted the Alpine Cowboys in a one-game series.
The Invaders entered this matchup with a 3-9 record and are coming off a three-game home series against the Tucson Saguaros, in which the Invaders lost all three games. The Cowboys came in with an 8-6 record and are coming off a two-game series against the Blackwell FlyCatchers, in which the Cowboys won both games.
This was the fifth time the Invaders and Cowboys faced off, with two previous games in Roswell and the other two in Alpine. The Cowboys won all four games.
This time, both teams played good defense and both pitchers kept a tight scoreboard. During the first five innings, the Invaders obtained a slim 2-1 lead before the Cowboys would take the lead in the next two innings, after scoring three runs compared to the Invaders’ one.
No more runs were allowed the rest of the game, which meant the Cowboys would come out on top with a tally of 4-3. Their record would move to 9-6, while the Invaders’ record fell to 3-10.
The Cowboys hitters combined for seven hits in total, with Josh Rego (15) and AJ Folds (2) tied with the most hits with two each. One of Rego’s hits was a home run. On defense the Cowboys committed one error.
Brendan Konal (99) was their starting pitcher, and he pitched 6.1 innings, struck out eight batters, walked two, allowed six hits and three runs. Konal (99) was also considered the winning pitcher. A combined effort by Ronin Tachibana (0) and Bradley Burdett (11), credited with the save, finished the game on the mound for the Cowboys.
Invaders’ batters combined for eight hits. Maikol Perez (44) had the most hits with three. The Invaders team had a total of two errors.
The Invaders’ starting pitcher was Angel Rios (35), and he pitched 6.1 innings, struck out eight batters, walked four, allowed six hits and four runs. He was also considered the losing pitcher. A combined effort between Estafano Zabaleta (43), Nester Perela (23) and Michael Martinez (19) finished the game on the mound.
