Red Sox Trade Idea Moves on From Aroldis Chapman in Deal With Mets originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

After rumors stating that the Boston Red Sox could move on from Aroldis Chapman if they don’t figure things out over the next few weeks ahead of the end of July, the left-handed reliever could be dealt, given how Boston has played.

The Red Sox sit at 33-36 as of June 11, nine games behind the first-place New York Yankees in the American League East. It’s still a bit early to press the panic button, but the Red Sox haven’t shown anything over the past two years, and this is who they are at this point.

If they don’t figure things out, moving on from Chapman makes plenty of sense, and according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the New York Mets might be one of the teams interested in trading for him.

“But it is hard to ignore Aroldis Chapman if the Red Sox never get their act together. Chapman had faced 24 lefty batters this year and struck out 13. And at 37, he was still averaging an MLB-best 100.1 mph with his sinker and 98.8 mph with his four-seamer. Chapman had a 34 percent strikeout rate overall, and his 8.7 walk rate would be the third-lowest of his career,” he wrote.

The seven-time All-Star has made a living off throwing the baseball harder than nearly every pitcher in Major League Baseball history.

Despite the Red Sox being one of the worst teams in the American League, Chapman owns a 1.65 ERA and has struck out 37 hitters in 27.1 innings.

If the contending Mets could land that for a decent price, the Red Sox could help them out.
