After finishing a series sweep over the Washington Nationals in the team’s sixth win in a row, they will try to continue to be the best team in the NL, but without one of their star pitchers.

In Kodai Senga’s start against the Nationals on Thursday, he was set to finish the game dominantly once again. But in the top of the sixth inning, Senga went to make a play at first base after a ground ball hit by Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams, and stepped awkwardly on the bag.

This led to him grabbing the back of his right leg and falling to the ground.

It didn’t look good for the Mets’ pitcher, and he wouldn’t return to the game. Leading to left-handed reliever Jose Castillo taking the mound to finish the inning for New York.

It was a tragic time for Senga to go down, as he’s been one of the best pitchers in baseball in the 2025 season and finished pitching 5.2 innings, giving up one hit and striking out five batters in the 4-3 win against the Nationals.

After the Mets were able to get him off of the field to determine how serious the injury was, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza announced that Senga will be placed on the injured list.

Even though Senga came out of the game while earning the win, it will be the last time he will be on the mound for the Mets for a while.

More news on the Kodai Senga’s injury will release in later days, and the Mets will have to find new answers to replace the Cy Young hopeful.

So far this season, Senga has compile a stat line of a 1.47 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and has struck out 70 batters in 73.2 innings pitched.
