In Dodgers minor league games for Thursday, June 12th, we have a shutout in Low-A, Patrick Copen making his second Double-A start, and a pair of rehabbing pitchers in Triple-A.
Player of the day
Christian Zazueta was acquired by the Dodgers in February 2024 along with Matt Gage in the Caleb Ferguson trade. The 20-year-old is having a stellar season at Low-A Rancho Cucamonga, leading the league in wins (6), second in ERA (2.59), fourth in strikeouts (59), and third in WHIP (1.096). On Thursday, Zazueta pitched his fifth game (in 12 starts), where he has lasted at least five innings without giving up a run. He is ranked the Dodgers’ 19th-best prospect by MLB Pipeline.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
The Albuquerque Isotopes (Rockies) pushed across a run in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Comets 9-8. Oklahoma City came back from deficits three times only to lose it in the end. Emmet Sheehan made his third rehab start for the Comets, and gave up four runs on six hits in three and one-third innings with seven strikeouts. Sheehan has a remarkable 16 strikeouts against only one walk in 9â…“ innings over his three Triple-A starts.
Nick Frasso pitched an inning and gave up two runs on three hits. Those were the first runs Frasso surrendered in June after three appearances and five and two-thirds innings. Edgardo Henriquez needed only ten pitches (seven strikes) to complete one scoreless inning.
On the offensive side, James Outman (13) and Alex Freeland (eight) hit home runs, and Hunter Feduccia drove home three runs with a single and a triple. Feduccia has 16 hits in his last 34 at-bats, raising his batting average to .299, and his on-base percentage over .400 for the second consecutive year.
Double-A Tulsa
The Drillers lost a tight game to the Springfield Cardinals 4-3 when the Cardinals scored two runs in the bottom of the tenth to walk it off. Patrick Copen made his second start for the Drillers and went five innings, giving up two runs and four hits. After a very strong start in High-A, Copen has now struck out 15 batters in 10â…“ innings while giving up three earned runs in Double-A.
High-A Great Lakes
The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Brewers) beat the Loons 9-2, scoring five runs in the ninth inning to turn a close game into a laugher. Great Lakes starter Luke Fox gave up a run in the first inning and three in the fifth to take the loss. Zyhir Hope doubled home two runs in the sixth inning for the Loons’ only runs.
Low-A Rancho Cucamonga
Zazueta and the Quakes bullpen combined for a shutout of the Inland Empire 66ers (Angels). The big hit was a bases-clearing three-run double by Mairoshendrick Martinus in the fifth inning.
