Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs were battered by the Louisville Bats (Reds), 9-6.

Starter Jake Woodford took the loss after allowing four runs on ten hits over five innings. Two of those hits were solo home runs. Woodford struck out two and walked no one, although he did hit one batter.

Porter Hodge threw a inning of relief in a rehab appearance tonight. He retired the side in order in the eighth. Hodge struck out one.

First baseman Carlos Pérez hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, his 12th of the year. Pérez was 1 for 3 with two walks.

Catcher Moisés Ballesteros was a perfect 3 for 3 with a double and two walks. Ballesteros drove in one run and scored one run.

Second baseman Chase Strumpf was 2 for 5 with one run scored.

Knoxville Smokies

The Smokies were leading the Columbus Clingstones 1-0 in the third inning when the game was suspended for rain. They’ll finish the game on Saturday, followed by a seven-inning regularly-scheduled game.

South Bend Cubs

Myrtle Beach Pelicans

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans boiled the Hickory Crawdads (Rangers), 3-2.

Starter Alfredo Romero threw five scoreless innings, surrendering just three hits and two walks. Romero struck out six. It was his second win of the season.

Brayden Spears retired the side in order in the ninth for the save. Spears did not strike anyone out.

Shortstop Yahil Melendez hit a two-run single in the fifth inning. Melendez went 2 for 4 with a double.

DH Jose Escobar went 1 for 2 with a walk and a run scored.

ACL Cubs

Tied with the Reds, 2-2 in the eighth.
