BOSTON — Carlos Narváez delivered a dramatic walk-off RBI single off the wall in the 10th inning, leading the Boston Red Sox to a 2-1 victory over the New York Yankees on Friday night. The win marked Boston’s third consecutive triumph over their longtime rivals.
The game saw Aaron Judge hit a tying solo home run in the ninth inning, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win for the Yankees, whose three-game overall win streak came to an end. The Yankees had entered the game following a sweep of Kansas City last week.
In the 10th inning, Jarren Duran grounded out, advancing automatic runner David Hamilton to third base. Reliever Tim Hill, now 3-2, then walked Rafael Devers. After a strikeout, Narváez stepped up to the plate and sealed the victory for Boston.
Garrett Whitlock, who improved to 5-0, pitched a scoreless 10th inning to preserve the efforts of Boston starter Garrett Crochet. Crochet delivered a masterful performance, pitching a career-high 8 1/3 innings, allowing four hits, and striking out seven.
Crochet’s dominance included striking out Judge in each of their first three encounters. However, Judge found success in their fourth meeting, launching a 443-foot home run over the Green Monster on a 99.6 mph fastball.
Aroldis Chapman replaced Crochet and secured the final two outs of the inning. Yankees starter Ryan Yarbrough allowed four hits over 4 2/3 innings, walked three, and struck out three.
