SEATTLE — The Mariners broke a 2-2 tie with a four-run seventh inning Friday, handing the Cleveland Guardians a 7-2 loss at T-Mobile Park.

Cleveland’s bullpen stumbled as Tim Herrin put two runners on base to start the seventh before Randy Arozarena and Dominic Canzone delivered run-scoring hits against reliever Hunter Gaddis.

Cole Young added an RBI double off Kolby Allard as the Mariners forced Cleveland to use three pitchers in the inning.

It marked the seventh loss in the last 10 games for the Guardians, who have fallen to third place in the American League Central Division. Cleveland now sits a half-game behind the Twins and 9 1/2 games behind the division-leading Tigers.

Guardians starter Gavin Williams struggled with efficiency early, throwing 30 pitches in the first inning alone. Despite loading the bases after a JP Crawford leadoff single and two walks, Williams escaped without allowing a run when Rowdy Tellez grounded out to second.

The Guardians took a 2-0 lead in the third inning when Nolan Jones and Steven Kwan hit back-to-back solo home runs off Seattle starter Luis Castillo. It marked the third time this season Cleveland hitters have connected for consecutive homers.

Tellez jumpstarted Seattle’s comeback with a solo home run off Williams in the fourth inning that traveled 399 feet into the second deck in right field. Ben Williamson later doubled and scored on Crawford’s RBI single to tie the score.

Williams allowed two earned runs on six hits in just four innings of work with three walks and one strikeout. It was the fourth time in 14 starts this season that Williams failed to pitch into the fifth inning.

Castillo limited Cleveland to three hits over six innings while striking out seven. Kwan, who added a single in the eighth, was the only Cleveland player with more than one hit.

José Ramírez extended his on-base streak to 38 consecutive games with a leadoff walk in the sixth inning. His career-high streak is currently the longest active run in the majors, and the second-longest this season behind Kyle Schwarber’s 41-game stretch.

The Guardians survived a scare in the fifth inning when reliever Cade Smith was nearly struck in the head by a Tellez line drive that registered 106.6 mph off the bat. The ball hit the brim of Smith’s cap before deflecting into right-center field for a double. After being checked by manager Stephen Vogt and team trainers, Smith remained in the game and struck out Canzone to end the inning.

Crawford finished with three hits for Seattle, while Canzone, Arozarena, Tellez and Julio Rodríguez added two apiece. Jorge Polanco launched a solo home run in the eighth, his 11th of the season, off Allard as the Mariners rebounded from a disappointing 1-5 road trip against the Angels and Diamondbacks.
