KANSAS CITY, Mo. — After it was announced that former Kansas City Royals outfielder Alex Gordon would be inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame back in March, the Royals have officially inducted him.
Gordon’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held Friday, June 13, ahead of the Royals game against the Athletics at Kauffman Stadium. Fans filled the stadium, former teammates, coaches and staff members showed up in support and Gordon delivered a heartfelt speech ahead of the game.

The current Royals position players joined in as well; each player wore their jersey with the iconic stripe of pine tar across the back. Gordon was known to have a stripe of pine tar slicing diagonally through the nameplate on the back of his jersey, and the Royals decided to emulate it as a gesture of recognition.
During his 14-year Royals Hall of Fame career, Gordon was named an American League All-Star three different times (’13, ’14, ’15) and won eight Gold Glove Awards. He racked up 34.9 WAR (wins above replacement) while batting .257 in his career.
Some of Gordon’s most memorable moments include a ninth-inning, game-tying deep home run in the 2015 World Series, a go-ahead blast in the 10th inning of the 2014 ALCS and countless dives into the left field stands to catch foul fly balls.
