‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage may be gone, but his influence lives on.

The Detroit Tigers made social media headlines by breaking out a new celebratory move during the 2025 MLB season. As it turns out, the celebration originated with Randy Savage’s character in the original Spider-Man movie.

FanDuel Sports Network Detroit sideline reporter Daniella Bruce did her research to explain the origins of the new celebration, revealing Tigers’ Dillon Dingler was actually referencing Randy Savage’s character, Bonesaw McGraw, with his celebration taunt.

This isn’t the first time the Tigers have paid homage to Savage, as the team also had a Randy ‘Macho Man’ Savage themed WWE belt in the dugout during the 2022 season. For those unaware, Savage also had a deeper connection to pro baseball. Savage played in the minor leagues for the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds before his wrestling career started.

The’ Macho Man’ popped up at the Cincinnati Reds booth on September 21, 1989 in his wrestling gear. Of course, he didn’t take long enough for the crowd to notice a crown wearing, jacked dude at the baseball game.

Then, (now-former) Reds owner Marge Schott registered her protest by sending her nephew Stephen H. Schott to have Savage removed from the booth. Savage obliged but not before Marty Brennaman stepped in to retaliate the pressing demand.
