Durham Bulls 6, Charlotte Knights 5 (Statcast box)
The Knights fell just short of mounting a comeback to the Bulls. After Chris Rodriguez gave up two runs in the first, Andre Lipcius responded with a solo shot in the next frame to cut the lead in half. For the next four innings, Colson Montgomery was the only player who generated hits. Rodriguez eventually gave up three more hits to lengthen Durham’s lead to 5-1 before he departed.

Charlotte didn’t kick its offense into high gear until the seventh, when Adam Hackenberg slammed a two-run RBI single to bring the game to 5-3. Zach DeLoach tied the affair with a wall-bouncing double.

With one on and runners in scoring position, though, the Knights comeback was halted by back-to-back swinging strikeouts from Hackenberg and Montgomery. Payton Pallette entered the ninth with the hopes of earning a hold and sending the game into extras, but he instantly gave up a double and walk-off single to earn his second loss with the Knights.

ROSTER NOTE: Rumors are abounding late Friday that in the aftermath of Noah Schultz’s one-hit outing over nearly six frames on Thursday, the universal No. 1 White Sox prospect is moving up to Triple-A Charlotte for next week’s action.

Montgomery Biscuits 5, Birmingham Barons 1
Birmingham’s weak offense did little favors for its starting pitcher. Although the Barons struck first with a RBI single from Calvin Harris, Birmingham’s starter Riley Gowens surrendered all five runs in 5 2⁄3 innings with 10 hits and three walks. The Barons sprinkled five hits and two walks from the third through ninth inning. They left eight runners on base and didn’t capitalize on seven scoring opportunities.

On the bright side, Jordan Mikel had another strong appearance. In his second game this month, Mikel limited the Biscuits to one hit in 2 1⁄3 innings while striking out four. Despite having a tough May, Mikel is bouncing back nicely.

Bowling Green Hot Rods 8, Winston-Salem Dash 1
The Dash suffered another blowout loss to Bowling Green. Lucas Gordon, who has had a handful of rough outings in his last five games, conceded eight hits, six runs, and two walks over four frames. Struggling reliever Jake Peppers added to Winston-Salem’s 5-1 deficit in the sixth with two RBI singles.

On the hitting side, things looked bleak. The Dash answered the first Hot Rods run with a Samuel Zavala sacrifice fly that knotted the game at one apiece. But that would be the only W-S run of the game. The next nine Dash hitters were retired in order, with a Sam Antonacci single in the fifth breaking up what would’ve been four hitless innings. The Dash couldn’t manage to string back-to-back hits the entire game, resulting in an uneventful game that looks far more competitive on paper.

ACL White Sox 3, ACL Giants 2
The Sox squeaked a narrow win out against the 23-8 ACL Giants. The Sox scored three runs with three hits, which included a RBI single from Alexander Albertus and a two-run bomb from Marcelo Alcala. Despite striking out 10 times, the Sox’s slim offense was enough to keep the Giants at bay.

The real stars of the show were the pitchers, who combined for seven hits, two runs, three walks, and nine strikeouts. Jesus Mendez earns the gold star for the Sox pitchers, limiting the Giants to a pair of hits and one walk while striking out three through 1 2⁄3 innings.
