The Mets have announced that the team has signed left-handed reliever Colin Poche to a minor league deal, and he’ll begin his time with the organization in Triple-A Syracuse. The 31-year-old was recently designated for assignment by the Nationals.
In 8.2 innings of work before the DFA, Poche struggled mightily, as he had an 11.42 ERA and a 6.43 FIP with 10 strikeouts and 12 walks. The Mets will obviously be hoping to get him back on track, and given the fact that he’s out of options, it would be ideal if he had a real chance of sticking at the major league level if and when the team decides to call him up to the major league roster.
At the moment, Génesis Cabrera is the Mets’ lone left-handed reliever at the major league level after both A.J. Minter and Danny Young suffered season-ending injuries. The Mets also recently signed Brooks Raley to a two-year deal as he works his way back from his Tommy John surgery last year, but he hasn’t started pitching in games yet. Anthony Gose was the lone left-handed reliever in Syracuse before the Poche signing.
