The College Baseball Foundation on Friday named North Carolina pitcher Jake Knapp as its national pitcher of the year.Knapp is the first Tar Heel to receive the honor since its introduction in 2009.In the 2025 season, Knapp had a 2.02 ERA, which was the fourth-best in the country. Knapp’s 0.86 WHIP (walks and hits allowed per inning) were .03 away from breaking the UNC record. Knapp is a former walk-on at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. The Greensboro native didn’t receive any offers as he was coming out of high school.In the offseason, he weighed the possibility of going pro despite his months of rehab ahead.
