Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Hunter Greene is coming off a career year last season in which he went 9-5 with a 2.75 ERA across 26 starts, the first time his ERA was lower than 4.44. However, the 25-year-old has continued that momentum this year, as he’s 4-3 with a 2.72 ERA through 11 starts.

Greene’s WHIP this season is also a career-best 0.97, and his opponent’s on-base percentage is also a career-low .254. The right-hander hasn’t allowed more than two runs in a start since April and is tied for 35th in baseball with 73 strikeouts despite not having pitched since June 3 because of a groin strain.
With that being said, Reds manager Terry Francona revealed an unfortunate injury update about Greene before their bout with the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, via FOX19’s Charlie Goldsmith.

“It’s going to take a little longer this time,” he said.
“It’s his second stint on the IL with a groin injury,” Goldsmith added. “Greene will rehab in Arizona at the complex.”
Cincinnati has lost two straight games but is 6-4 in its last 10. The club is in fourth place in the NL Central, seven games behind the first-place Chicago Cubs and four games out of a Wild Card spot.

The Reds lost the opening contest of their series vs. the Tigers 11-5 on Friday and will lose the series if they fall on Saturday. Detroit has baseball’s best record at 46-25.
Right-hander Brady Singer (6-4, 4.59 ERA) will start on the mound for Cincinnati.
