Picks to win the 2025 men’s NCAA baseball tournament

The Montgomery Advertiser’s Adam Cole and The Tennesseean’s Aria Gerson make their predictions for the men’s NCAA baseball tournament, including Arkansas, Vanderbilt and LSU.

Arkansas’ Wehiwa Aloy and Kuhio Aloy might just have the best duo nickname in college baseball.

The Hawaiian brothers rank first and second in RBIs for the No. 3 Razorbacks this season and have been important pieces for the top-ranked team remaining heading into the College World Series. Their success birthed the nickname, “Bash Braddahs.”

Wehiwa Aloy and Kuhio Aloy both transferred to Arkansas from Sacramento State and BYU, respectively, with Wehiwa being in his second season with the Razorbacks and Kuhio in his first season.

Wehiwa Aloy, a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award this season, was also the SEC Player of the Year in 2025. The shortstop is a projected first-round pick in 2025 and is one of the best players left in the NCAA tournament.

Here’s what to know of Wehiwa and Kuhio Aloy, and how the “Bash Braddahs” name was coined:

Arkansas baseball ‘Bash Braddahs’ nickname explained

It all started when the Aloy brothers both hit a home run against Kansas State in the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series in Arlington, Texas, earlier this season. While Arkansas lost the game 3-2, both of the Razorbacks’ two runs came from solo home runs from the Aloys.

“It started when we both hit a home run in the same game, and kind of did the jump celebration,” Kuhio Aloy told SEC Network earlier this season. “It’s kind of like a Hawaiian thing. Back home, using the word braddahs instead of ‘brothers.’

Wehiwa Aloy added: “At home we call each other braddahs. When we’re just hanging out or cruising with the boys.”

It’s not uncommon to see Arkansas fans decked out in leis and palm trees for the Aloys. The nickname pays homage to Mark McGwire and Jose Canseco, who were nicknamed the “Bash Brothers” when teammates on the Oakland Athletics from the late 1980s to the early 1990s.

Wehiwa Aloy and Kuhio Aloy both only played one season each at their first school before ending up at Arkansas together.

Wehiwa Aloy played one season at Sacramento State, earning freshman of the year honors at Sacramento State. Kuhio Aloy, who was recruited to pitch at BYU, ended up being a solid hitter for the Cougars before also transferring to Arkansas, one year after his older brother did.

Wehiwa Aloy has a .348 batting average with a team-leading 20 home runs and 64 RBIs this season, whereas Kuhio Aloy boasts a .330 batting average with 13 home runs and a team-leading 70 RBIs.

“We always wanted to play together at the college level,” Kuhio Aloy said. “When I entered the transfer portal, Arkansas was the first school to hit me up.”
