BOSTON — The Red Sox have been trotting out a rookie-heavy lineup during their recent run of victories, having won four games in a row and six of seven to get back to .500. Facing a tough pitching matchup Sunday, though, they’ll start the game with three of their prized rookies on the bench.

Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer and Carlos Narváez are all out of the lineup against the Yankees and ace Max Fried as Boston looks to finish off a three-game sweep Sunday. Manager Alex Cora stuck to his vow to be careful with his young left-handed hitters (Anthony and Mayer) against experienced southpaws and will start Rob Refsnyder (right field) and Abraham Toro (third base) Sunday. Narváez, who has started eight of the last nine games and four in a row, gets a breather ahead of a nine-game West Coast trip that begins Monday in Seattle.

Like he said he would Saturday, Cora once again dropped incumbent leadoff man Jarren Duran in the lineup, and he’s hitting sixth. Refsnyder is leading off for the third straight day after collecting three hits in Boston’s two wins to start the series.

Expect Cora to be aggressive with late-inning pinch-hitting options as Boston chases a sweep. The Red Sox are 4-1 against the first-place Yankees over the last two weekends and have surged as of late.

On the mound for Boston is righty Brayan Bello, facing the Yankees for the first time in 2025. His injury-delayed season has gotten off to an uneven start but he has been better lately, going at least six innings in his last two outings against the Angels and Rays, respectively.

First pitch is at 1:35 p.m. ET.
