The A’s came out on top on Saturday afternoon, beating the Kansas City Royals 4-0 in a quality Saturday afternoon matchup for their second win in a row.

The club was riding high after Friday night’s win and looking for their first two-game winning streak since the beginning of May. Left-handed rookie Jacob Lopez got the ball for the start tonight and the rookie starter was locked in, allowing just three hits during his six innings of work. He also racked up a career-high nine strikeouts while allowing just one walk. After splitting the start last time out with Sean Newcomb, manager Mark Kotsay let it ride with Lopez to terrific results, almost certainly assuring another start from the rookie next week.

The bats meanwhile got to work against Kansas City’s starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen. Third base rookie Max Muncy got the scoring started today with a two-run home run, his 5th of the season:

Second baseman Luis Urias added on another run for the A’s with an RBI double in the fourth:

The club also got to see outfielder Lawrence Butler swat his 10th big fly of the season in the seventh:

That was it for the scoring in this contest and the club wrapped its 28th win with two innings from Michael Kelly and a scoreless appearance from Hogan Harris to end this contest. Two game winning streak, it’s nice to see you again.

Can we get three in a row? Our first sweep since April? We’ll find out tomorrow morning in the finale when Jeffrey Springs makes the tart against Noah Cameron. Looking like a good pitching duel for a fun Father’s Day!
