BINGHAMTON — The Bloomfield Bombers softball team captured its first state championship in program history on Saturday morning.

The Bombers shutout Section I’s Tuckahow 11-0 in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class C Championship after another dominating performance on the mound from senior Ashlyn Wright.

Wright, who shutout Section IV’s Deposit/Hancock 4-0 in the state semifinals on Friday morning, tossed a complete-game shutout against Tuckahoe to claim Bloomfield’s first state title.

Wright finished with one hit, one walk allowed while striking out 12 Tuckahoe batters in the title game. She ended with 20 punch outs total during the two state matchups at Greenlight Networks Grand Slam Park from over the weekend.

The Bombers scored a run in each of the first five innings of the championship game, which included two runs scored in the bottom of the first inning.

Wright also helped Bloomfield (24-1, 14-0 in Finger Lakes East) at the plate as well.

She went 4-for-5 with a double and five runs batted in. Freshman teammate Sydney Falsone added three hits and two RBIs as they eased their way to victory in the title game.

The only loss this entire season for the Bombers came on May 3 in a tournament against Class AA’s Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake by only a final score of 2-1. Bloomfield ended winning 17 straight after that to capture the state championship.
