The New York Mets fell to the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday in a non-competitive 9-0 blowout. This loss completed a three-game sweep for Tampa Bay, and dropped New York to 45-27 on the season.

Despite this skid, the Mets still sit atop the National League East, owning a 2.5 game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies. As the Mets look to turn things around, they could use increased production from one player in particular.
Going 0-for-2 in Sunday’s loss, left-handed hitting infielder Brett Baty is now just 3-for-21 in his last seven games and 7-for-48 in his last 15 games.

Baty was replaced by switch-hitting infielder Ronny Mauricio in Sunday’s contest, and while it was initially unclear if the replacement was injury-related, the Mets announced postgame that it was.
“Brett Baty exited today’s game due to right groin tightness,” Anthony DiComo of MLB.com wrote on X. “The Mets consider him day-to-day and don’t believe it serious enough to send him for testing.”
While he was removed due to an ailment, it does not seem Baty will be held out long with this groin issue. The Mets need his production to come around, as they still have high hopes for the No. 12 overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft.

Set to begin a three-game set with the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday, New York will then travel to Philadelphia for three with the Phillies. This is a crucial portion of the Mets’ schedule, and they will need all hands on deck.
