Right-hander Frankie Scalzo Jr. was demoted from Triple-A Iowa to Double-A Knoxville.
Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs silenced the Louisville Bats (Reds), 3-0.
Connor Noland started and got the win with six strong innings. Noland gave up four hits and issued two walks. He struck out one.
Riley Martin continued his strong season in Triple-A, pitching the ninth and getting his third save. Martin gave up a one-out single and a walk, but former Cub P.J. Higgins ended the game by hitting a fly out to right fielder Owen Caissie, who made a terrific catch and threw to second to double up the runner. Martin now has an ERA of 1.20 on the season.
Caissie also hit a 449-foot two-run home run off the center field batter’s eye in the third inning. It was his 11th home run this season. Caissie went 1 for 3 with a walk.
Third baseman Dixon Machado provided Iowa’s other run with his second home run in the fifth inning. Machado was 1 for 3.
Iowa had just three hits in today’s game. DH Darius Hill was 1 for 3 with a double.

Knoxville Smokies
The Knoxville Smokies smoked the Columbus Clingstones (Braves), 9-2.
After throwing a seven-inning no-hitter in game two yesterday, the Smokies had a no-hitter through 6.2 innings today. Starter Grant Kipp got the win after throwing 5.1 innings and allowing no runs and no hits. Kipp walked two and struck out eight. He also hit one batter.
First baseman Pablo Aliendo hit a grand slam in the fourth inning, his fifth home run this season. Aliendo went 2 for 5 and scored twice.
Catcher Ethan Hearn connected for a two-run home run in the sixth inning, his fourth. Hearn went 2 for 5.
Center fielder Brett Bateman was 3 for 5 with a stolen base and one run scored.
DH Corey Joyce was 2 for 4 with a walk. He scored on Aliendo’s slam.
South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs were boiled by the Ft. Wayne TinCaps (Padres), 5-4. The loss ends South Bend’s six-game winning streak.
Starter Kenten Egbert pitched the first 4.1 innings and allowed three runs on three hits. Egbert walked four and struck out just one.
The loss went to Marino Santy, who gave up the lead by allowing two runs on no hits and four walks over two-thirds of an inning in the seventh. Santy did not strike anyone out and both outs he got were sacrifice flies.
Rehabbing DH James Triantos doubled twice today and was 2 for 5 with a run scored. Triantos’ double in the seventh inning drove in two to give South Bend a short-lived lead.
Shortstop Jefferson Rojas was 2 for 4 and doubled home Triantos in the third inning.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans split a doubleheader with the Hickory Crawdads (Rangers), losing game one 12-2 and winning the second game 4-1.
Jostin Florentino started game one and took the loss after giving up four runs on seven hits over five innings. Florentino struck out four, walked one and hit one batter.
This game was close until the Crawdads scored eight runs un the top of the ninth. Landon Ginn gave up five in the seventh.
Third baseman Matt Halbach hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning, his third on the year. Halbach went 1 for 3.

Nazier Mulé started game two and pitched 2.2 innings without allowing a hit or a run. Mulé did walk three batters and struck out three.
Hayden Frank threw the next 3.1 innings and got the win after giving up one run on three hits. Frank walked two and struck out three.
Jackson Kirkpatrick retired the side in order in the top of the seventh for the save. Kirkpatrick struck out two.
Catcher Owen Ayers tripled twice tonight—doubling his career total as a professional—in a 2 for 3 game. The first triple in the fourth inning drove in first baseman Matt Halbach, who was 1 for 3 with an RBI double.
