KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – After Saturday’s 4-0 loss to the Athletics, the Royals held a players-only meeting in hopes of jump-starting a team in an early June swoon. But on Sunday, the Royals lost to the A’s 3-2 to finish their six-game homestand 0-6.
“Pretty brutal. Not good enough. Unacceptable. Whatever terminology you want to use,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said after Sunday’s loss.
“It wasn’t good. It was bad,” said Bobby Witt, Jr. “You [have to] flush it.”

The Royals are just 10-22 since May 9 and have more losses than all but three teams in the American League. The Royals were also just swept by the A’s — who entered this weekend’s series with just six wins since May 10.
“We’ve had great crowds this whole week and we haven’t been able to put wins on the board for them,” Witt Jr. said. “It’s just one of those things where you have to peel it, eat it, and move on.”
The Royals are four games under .500 for the first time since April 22. They have lost eight of their last nine and have scored the fewest runs in the American League.
“We’ve talked about it in here before. No one feels sorry for you when you lose; this is the big leagues,” Quatraro told reporters Sunday afternoon. “You have to go out there and compete and you have a chance to do that again on Tuesday.”
This week, the Royals will play three-game sets at the Texas Rangers and San Diego Padres. The Royals know they have talent on their roster, but now they need to put it all together.
“You [have to] play nine innings. You can’t play one inning; you can’t play two innings; you have to play all nine innings. That’s why the game is 27 outs. ‘How can we score more runs than them and get 27 outs?’” said Witt Jr. “The best team doesn’t always win; it’s the team that plays the best. It’s just ‘How can we be the best team on the field each and every night?’ and ‘How can we focus every night?’ and ‘How can we just be ready to play?’”
The Royals are 19-19 at home this season but have lost 14 of their last 17 home games, including seven in a row.
