Following his first two major-league appearances since 2022, former Detroit Tigers pitcher Luis F. Castillo has been traded to the Baltimore Orioles from the Seattle Mariners.

Castillo, who signed a minor-league deal with the Mariners in January, made two starts in April and posted a 7.71 ERA.

After Seattle acquired outfielder Leody Taveras off waivers, Castillo was designated for assignment on Tuesday and traded to Baltimore in exchange for cash considerations on Wednesday.

The Orioles optioned the 30-year-old to Triple-A Norfolk while opening up a 40-man roster spot.

Castillo came up through the Arizona Diamondbacks system, originally hailing form the Dominican Republic.

He would sign with the Tigers in 2022 as a minor-league free agent and make his way up to the big leagues in August of the same year.

Three shutout relief appearances were not enough for Castillo to stay with the club as he was removed from the 40-man roster, sent outright to Triple-A in November and elected to become a free agent.

Castillo spent the next two seasons in the Nippon Professional Baseball league in Japan, competing for Chiba Lotte Marines and Orix Buffaloes.

The Mariners brought Castillo back to the U.S. and now he’ll look to try and break back into the big leagues with the Orioles.
