Blue Jays’ Move Revealed After Rafael Devers Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Toronto Blue Jays did not have a good weekend. They got swept by the Philadelphia Phillies in a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. An 11-4 loss on Sunday completed the sweep.

Moreover, the Blue Jays appear to be among the teams that took a swing but missed out on the Rafael Devers sweepstakes.
“The Braves, Padres, and Blue Jays inquired about Rafael Devers’ availability, but weren’t as motivated as the Giants,” according to Sean McAdam of MassLive (h/t “Foul Territory”).
Instead, Devers is taking his talents to the National League West, with the San Francisco Giants sending left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison, right-handed hurler Jordan Hicks, outfielder James Tibbs III and pitching prospect Jose Bello to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for the three-time All-Star.

The 28-year-old Devers and the Red Sox had not seen eye to eye because of an issue concerning his position on the field. But that is no longer a controversy with the team and player going their separate ways.

With the Giants, Devers is expected to provide a spark for a San Francisco offense in need of a productive bat to help the team keep up in the competitive NL West. The Giants trail the division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers by two games and stand second in the NL wild-card chase.
As for the Blue Jays, while their pursuit of Devers did not come to fruition, they can take heart from the fact that they will no longer have to face him on a regular basis.
Devers has been a menace for Toronto. In 105 games with the Red Sox against the Blue Jays, he had slashed .307/.368/.569 with 24 home runs and 74 RBIs.
Toronto stands 38-33 and in third place in the American League East, 4.5 games behind the New York Yankees. The Blue Jays are in the second wild-card spot as they near the midway point of the season.
