The No. 2 FSU baseball team is gearing up for the postseason and is currently atop the ACC standings with two weeks left in the regular season.
A major reason for their success has been their starting rotation, which is led by ace Jamie Arnold. The lefty entered the season as one of the top pitchers in the country and he has delivered. He is second in the ACC in ERA (2.29), second in opponent batting average (.182), and sixth in strikeouts (73).
It should be no surprise that he is among the top draft prospects for the 2025 MLB draft and went quite early in Gabe Lacques’ latest mock draft for USA Today Sports. He has the Los Angeles Angels selecting Arnold with the No. 2 overall pick and here is why.
“The Angels’ ever-dire need for pitching and GM Perry Minasian’s penchant for quick-to-the-majors guys intersects with Arnold, a 6-foot-1 lefty who has dominated ACC competition with a WHIP of less than 1.00 and just three homers allowed in 55 innings,” he wrote. “Not your prototypical top five power pitcher, but a lefty who can pitch off his fastball and has the profile of a rotation anchor.”
If the projection holds, Arnold would be the highest drafted Seminole since J.D. Drew went 2nd overall to the Philadelphia Phillies in the 1997 MLB draft. Arnold is looking to become the first FSU pitcher drafted in the first round since Luke Weaver in 2014.
The 2025 MLB draft will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, and last from July 13-15. The Seminoles had two first-round picks last year in James Tibbs III and Cam Smith.
