Despite the more shocking bigger picture coming out of Boston, the Yankees are still leaving New England and headed home with the sour taste of a sweep in their mouths. They are back in the Bronx for a week’s worth games, kicking off tonight with a clash against the Angels.

Clarke Schmidt is taking the bump Monday evening, and has been pitching rather well of late. He’s struck out at least seven in three of his last four, and has allowed six earned runs in those four starts. He faced the Halos at the end of May, when he tossed six solid scoreless frames.

The Angels are sending out the hard-throwing right-hander José Soriano. He’s been a relative bright spot for L.A. this season, and is coming off of perhaps his best start of the year, when he struck out 12 batters in seven innings against the Athletics. The 26-year-old is squaring off with a near fully-loaded Yankees lineup (sans Paul Goldschmidt).

Perhaps the big story headed into this game, however, is the Return of Giancarlo Stanton. The former MVP is making his first appearance of the 2025 season, batting fifth tonight, after being on the shelf to this point with elbow injuries. It will be a joy to see Big G back in action in the Bronx.
