The MLB trade deadline is on July 31 and trade speculation and rumors are running rampant.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are in the middle of the speculation.

In fact, one MLB insider says the team could be the “epicenter of the trade deadline.”

Take a look at the latest news, rumors and speculation involving the Diamondbacks and the 2025 MLB trade deadline, one that could be very intriguing for Arizona’s MLB team, which currently sits at 36-35, 3.5 games out of the final wild card spot in the 2025 MLB Playoffs for the National League.

What will the Diamondbacks do at the 2025 MLB trade deadline?

USA TODAY Sports’ Bob Nightengale detailed the pivotal role Arizona could play at the 2025 MLB trade deadline in a recent column.

He wrote: “The Arizona Diamondbacks, who could be the epicenter of the trade deadline, are getting swarmed with calls from rival GMs with hopes they can land the piece to get them into October. The DBacks have starters Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly, power-hitting third baseman Eugenio Suarez and first baseman Josh Naylor, along with relievers Shelby Miller and Jalen Beeks, all pending free agents who could be available. The Seattle Mariners and San Francisco Giants are keeping a close eye on those power hitters, while virtually every contender is looking at their pitching. One little problem. The DBacks (36-35) still are contenders. As long as the DBacks still have a legitimate shot, they are making it clear they are not interested in breaking up the band.”

ESPN interestingly recently listed Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen among the MLB front office executives under the most pressure at the 2025 MLB trade deadline.

Buster Olney wrote: “Hazen will have a lot of say about what happens at this year’s trade deadline because if Arizona decides to trade talent, he’ll dangle a highly marketable set of players. Josh Naylor (Could the Mariners be interested? Or the Giants?), Eugenio Suarez (Yankees would be in on him), Merrill Kelly and Zac Gallen would become some of the best options, and other GMs like to trade with Hazen because they find him communicative and decisive. But Hazen has also seen success when his team has been on the fringe of contention. Two years ago, the D-backs won 84 regular-season games and, after upsetting the Phillies in the playoffs, came within two victories of winning the World Series. Arizona just lost Corbin Burnes and reliever Justin Martinez to major injuries, but with an extraordinary core of talent, could Hazen add help, rather than trade away players? Knowing that Burnes will miss most or all of next year, could Hazen start constructing the team’s 2026 rotation? A lot is riding on his choices this trade season.”

Speaking of Hazen, the DBacks GM recently told MLB Network Radio that he was looking to add to his team at the 2025 MLB trade deadline.

“It’s hard for me to watch how hard these guys are grinding every day and then take the trap door and rip it out from underneath them, honestly, and we kind of do these jobs to take shots and win,” Hazen said.

He added: “As long as we’re playing well and I believe that this team has the gas in the tank to go get it, we’re gonna try to add to this team. I don’t really find it all that fun to sit there in August and September and go to the ballpark every day knowing you’re gonna get your butt kicked. That’s not really exciting for me, to be honest with you. I’ve done that for a few seasons and that stinks. I have no real intention to go do that, in all honesty.

“Now, I’m not an idiot. I’m not gonna sit there and just throw bad money after bad. If we’re not in a position, we take on more injuries, our depth gets thinned out to the point where it’s going to be very hard for us to cobble something together to chase in the wild-card race where we’re down behind five different clubs and — let me just say this — the National League is what it is. It’s a really tough league and we know that. But I think we’re tough, too, and I’m not sure when we walk into town teams are celebrating.”
