It was one hell of a week for the Rangers and I finally get to say that in a positive way for the first time in a while.
Thanks to Texas outscoring Minnesota 34 to 13 on the road and then sweeping the White Sox at home, the Rangers are now at .500 for the first time since May 21st.
In the week 10 recap (I skipped week 11, that didn’t need to be rehashed) I wondered if Marcus Semien was back, and I think it’s safe to say since then, he is. And it’s such a relief to see.
But now I hesitantly ask if the offense as a whole is back? The absolute outburst in Minnesota felt like a turning point. It was easy to question if Tuesday’s series opener against the Twins was a fluke. Wednesday’s came almost felt like maybe it was going to confirm the fluke, however the next four games feel as though the Rangers have really turned a corner.
It should also be noted how significant it was that two of the three series wins were on the road, which the Rangers have not been doing well on.
With the three series wins in a row, they have had a solid week of good, consistent offense.
It is unfortunate however, that while they swept their weekend series, so too did the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners.
Along with Semien’s resurgence, Josh Smith is also on a hot streak, a sneak quiet one. Well a sneaky quiet one until he was named American League Player of the Week. Last week Smith batted .423, led the AL in hits with 11, and five multi-hit games.
