The 2025 MLB Draft will take place from July 13-15 in Atlanta, and the Dodgers will have three picks on the first day of the proceedings, which covers the first two rounds. Mock drafts have already come out, including from Carlos Collazo at Baseball America on Monday.

BA’s mock draft extends to the top 40 picks, which covers the Dodgers’ first pick, originally slated for 30th overall but dropped 10 spots due to LA surpassing the third competitive balance tax threshold. The Dodgers also have the 41st pick, thanks to trading Gavin Lux to the Reds. But the BA mock draft ends at 40, so we only have one potential selection to discuss.

Collazo at Baseball America tabbed an anonymous scout to alternate picks and provide commentary on all 40 picks in said mock draft. They picked Quentin Young, a third baseman and outfielder from Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, roughly 39 miles away from Dodger Stadium.

The scout on Young:

Big league bloodlines and 30-homer potential. Cannon for an arm, will play right field at the next level. Above-average runner underway and profiles nicely in right with power. Will be fun to watch him develop, considering the inconsistency with contact. If they take Young, this will test what everyone thinks about their ability to develop players.

Young is the nephew of former major leaguers Dmitri Young and Delmon Young, and is committed to play baseball at LSU if he doesn’t sign professionally.

MLB Pipeline rated Young as the No. 37 prospect in the draft:

The 6-foot-5 Young has a ton of projection, obvious baseball bloodlines and some loud tools. He has huge raw power that some evaluators put top-of-the-scale grades on. He has bat speed and some feel to hit, but there are some swing-and-miss concerns and trouble recognizing spin that cropped up over the summer, leading some to worry a bit about how much he’ll tap into that raw pop consistently.

The Dodgers have drafted high school position players with their first pick in each of the last two drafts, selecting outfielder Kendall George 36th overall in 2023, then grabbing shortstop Kellon Lindsey at No. 23 in 2024.

Old friend Phil Bickford went to Oaks Christian as well, and he was drafted 10th overall out of high school by the Blue Jays in 2015. Bickford instead went to a junior college and was selected 18th overall in 2016 by the Giants, with whom he did sign.
