Old Dominion pitchers Dylan Brown and Ben Moore have been invited to participate in the MLB draft combine, which began Tuesday and runs through Saturday at Chase Field in Phoenix.
Brown and Moore were among eight Sun Belt Conference players on the invitation list, which broke a league record.
The University of Virginia had four players invited: two-way player Chris Arroyo, second baseman Henry Godbout, pitcher Jack O’Connor and outfielder Aidan Teel.
Also making the list were Virginia Tech pitcher Griffin Stieg, Richmond catcher Jack Arcamone, George Mason outfielder James Quinn-Irons and East Carolina pitcher Ethan Young.
Brown went 5-2 with a 4.06 ERA and 102 strikeouts in 82 innings.
The MLB draft will be held July 13-14 in Atlanta.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER
Hampton to play in pro stadium
The Hampton University women’s soccer program will play their first game in a professional stadium this fall.
The Pirates will face Howard in the inaugural HBCU Women’s Soccer Invitational on Aug. 17 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. The venue is home to D.C. United of Major League Soccer and the Washington Spirit of the National Women’s Soccer League.
The game will begin at 3 p.m.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL
UVA’s Greenbrier opponents revealed
Virginia will face Northwestern on Nov. 21 and Butler on Nov. 23 in the Greenbrier Tip-off in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
Both games will be televised by CBS Sports Network.
The tournament’s field was announced in May, but the matchups were released Tuesday.
CAA opponents set for W&M, HU
The CAA has announced men’s and women’s basketball conference opponents for the upcoming season.
William & Mary’s men will face these teams twice (home and away): Campbell, Elon, Hampton, North Carolina A&T, UNCW and Northeastern. The Tribe will also host Hofstra, Stony Brook and Towson and visit Charleston, Drexel and Monmouth.

The UVA women’s basketball team will play in the Emerald Coast Classic on Nov. 24-25 in Niceville, Florida. The Cavaliers will take on Northwestern State at 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 24. The other two teams in their bracket are Nebraska and Purdue Fort Wayne.

Virginia Tech women’s basketball graduate Matilda Ekh will represent Sweden in the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket, which begins this week. Sweden will face Germany on Thursday.
Three Christopher Newport men’s lacrosse players — Brett Kelley, Daniel Siaton and Jamie Smith — and two CNU women’s players — Maelyn Eversole and Gabby Saia — have earned Academic All-District honors by the College Sports Communicators.
Four Christopher Newport field hockey players — Katie Abendschoen, Caroline Hughlett, Courtney Hughlett and Lainey Pratzner —have made the CSC Academic All-District Team.
Christopher Newport golfer Michael Thomas has been named a CSC Academic All-District selection.
