These game threads definitely follow a certain template for me. I give you a blurb on each starting pitcher, maybe a quick word on the lineups, and hand it off to the editors. This one’s a little different, mostly because of how annoying the Yankees have been the last few days. The club has lost four in a row, largely due to the fact they’ve scored just five combined runs since Thursday, and have been shut out in back-to-back games (including last night’s 11-inning mess).

So, while Will Warren will be one of the major stories in tonight’s attempt to break this losing streak, the big one will be whether or not the team manages to score. Indeed, I’d like them to try scoring two, or three, or maybe eight, but let’s focus on getting one on the board and going from there.

Kyle Hendricks is a pretty good candidate for a offensive bounceback, as the Professor is starting to show his age somewhat. At 35, the veteran righty sports a 5.20 ERA, and has mostly earned it as his 5.08 FIP indicates. The former Cubs great was never dominant with his strikeouts, but his 14.5-percent rate this season is a career low, while giving up more fly balls and the second-most barrels of his career.

Hendricks isn’t going to baffle you into striking out, and you can both hit him hard and get the ball in the air against him. Let’s score some runs, and trust Warren to hold serve on the mound.

To this point, Aaron Boone has shuffled his lineup a bit. Jasson Domínguez is leading off for the first time this season, and Ben Rice draws the short straw in the new Rice-Paul Goldschmidt-Giancarlo Stanton carousel while Trent Grisham sits in lieu of a Martian-Belli-Judge outfield.
