Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs got silenced by the Nashville Sounds (Brewers), 9-0.

Kenta Maeda had his usual first-inning problems, giving up three runs in the first and another one in the second for good measure. But he settled down after that and didn’t allow a run over the next four frames.

Maeda’s final line was four runs on six hits over six innings. Two of those hits were home runs—a two-run home run by Bobby Dalbec and a solo home run by Oliver Dunn. Maeda struck out three and walked one.

Eli Morgan’s rehab appearance could have gone better as the first four batters he faced reached. He then got two outs by a force out at the plate and a strike out, but Brandon Hughes then gave up a grand slam to Andrew Vaughn, so Morgan’s final line was four runs on two hits and two walks over two-thirds of an inning. He struck out one.

Porter Hodge pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth in his rehab stint with Iowa. He gave up no hits, but walked one and struck out one.

Iowa had six hits tonight and right fielder Owen Caissie had four of them, going 4 for 4 with a double.

Knoxville Smokies

The Knoxville Smokies were cracked open by the Biloxi Shuckers (Brewers), 9-8.

Starter Chris Kachmar gave up four runs on six hits over four innings. Kachmar struck out five and walked one.

Frankie Scalzo Jr. hit two batters in the eighth inning. Both of those runners came around to score, so Scalzo got the loss. Scalzo allowed two runs on no hits and no walks over two-thirds of an inning. He did not have a strikeout.

Catcher Pablo Aliendo connected for a solo home run in the fifth inning, his sixth on the season. Aliendo was 3 for 5. He had two total RBI and scored twice.

Third baseman Pedro Ramirez was 3 for 5 with a two-run triple in the top of the eighth inning. Ramirez scored from third when Aliendo singled him home to give Knoxville a temporary 8-7 lead.

DH Jordan Nwogu was 4 for 5 and scored twice.

Shortstop Corey Joyce went 2 for 5 and scored once.

RIght fielder Felix Stevens went 2 for 4 with a double. He was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the third inning for one run batted in.

South Bend Cubs

The South Bend Cubs were sent to the bottom of Lake Erie by the Lake County Captains (Guardians), 10-2.

Rehabbing second baseman James Triantos went 2 for 4 with an RBI double and a stolen base. He scored once.

DH Cameron Sisneros doubled twice in his High-A debut. He was 2 for 4.

Catcher Ariel Armas was 2 for 4 with a double.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans were drilled by the Fayetteville Woodpeckers (Astros), 5-2.

Yenrri Rojas took the loss after surrendering four runs on five hits over the first 4.1 innings. Rojas struck out five, walked two and hit one batter.

Third baseman Yahil Melendez was 2 for 3 with a walk and an RBI single in the eighth inning.

Right fielder Alexey Lumpuy went 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored.

Great defensive play by Lumpuy in right.

Lost to the Angels, 5-1.
