Giancarlo Stanton returns from injured list, makes 2025 Yankees debut

Giancarlo Stanton returns from the IL to make his 2025 season debut for the Yankees.

NEW YORK – In a twist to lately dormant Yankees’ lineup, lefty-hitting Ben Rice will make his first start at catcher on Wednesday night, with both Austin Wells and Giancarlo Stanton on the bench.

DJ LeMahieu is also getting a rest from the starting lineup, with Oswald Peraza starting at second base against Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jack Kochanowicz (3-8, 5.53 ERA) at Yankee Stadium.

Shut out in their last three straight games, the Yankees are seeking to snap a 29-inning scoreless drought and a season high five-game losing streak Wednesday. Lefty Ryan Yarbrough (3-1, 3.96 ERA) starts for the Yanks.

On May 26 at Anaheim, Yarbrough held a Mike Trout-less Angels lineup to one run over six innings in a 5-1 Yankees’ win.
