Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report broke down each team’s top ten prospects into five tiers based on each prospect’s ranking in BR’s Top 100 Prospects list or if they appear at all.

The Cardinals top ten prospects don’t crack the top ten in the system rankings – and they have just one “Tier 1” player in JJ Wetherholt, which means he’s ranked 1-25 in the Top 100 – but they still sit above 15 teams in terms of prospect quality.

With only three prospects in BR’s top 100 (Wetherholt, No. 25, Quinn Mathews, No. 64 and Tekoah Roby, No. 88), the team ranks last among NL Central teams on the list.

Despite the middle-of-the-pack ranking, the team and Cardinals’ fans still have a lot of success to look forward to as many of the team’s top ten prospects are having break-out seasons in the minor leagues.

Wetherholt leads the Double-A Texas League with a .322 average, Roby started solid in Double-A with a 2.49 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 47 innings which prompted the team to promote the young righty to Triple-A on June 11 and BR’s No. 5 Leonardo Bernal is leading the Texas League with 11 home runs and 41 RBI – and that’s just in the Cardinals’ top five.

Players like Thomas Saggese, Rainiel Rodriguez and Michael McGreevy are also overperforming at their respective levels, further bolstering the growing anticipation for more young talent to reach the big league level.

With the fifth overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, the Cardinals will certainly be adding more excitement to an already exhilarating farm system.
