WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – The Iowa Park Hawks baseball team played in the UIL State tournament for the first time in two decades.
The team went 26-10 on the season and reached the State Semifinals.
“I think towards the end of district, when we knew we were playing good teams we have a tough district ,” Iowa Park Hawks Head Baseball Coach Scot Green said.
“A lot of our teams competed well in the playoffs this year and I think right towards the end when we had some must win situations and we came through and we started jelling as a group,” Green said.
The Hawks team consisted a both incoming freshman and upperclassmen who led the charge.
Iowa Park was able to defeat district for Holliday to reach the State tournament.
“Our young guys started believing in the process and the older guys started believing in the young guys and towards the end of district I felt like we were playing our best baseball,” Green said.
Liberty-Eylau defeated Iowa Park and ended their season in a three game series.
“I think maybe we pressed a little bit after that they scored a couple of runs early got themselves ahead early and got to play a little more loose,” Green said.
The team received their State tournament title today along with their medals.
Several players will return next season for Iowa Park.
