GRAND CHUTE, Wis. — New Berlin Eisenhower became D2 State Baseball Champions in dramatic fashion Thursday, winning on a walk-off RBI hit to left field from Sam Hirthe in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Seymour 5-4 at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.

Hirthe came up with a key base hit early in the game that scored two runs. He also started the game on the mound for the Lions and looked dominant at times, striking out the side in the second inning.

New Berlin jumped out to a four-run lead in the game, but the Thunder stormed back in the fourth, loading the bases twice and tying the game with Hirthe on the mound.

In the seventh, Hollenback reached base for the fourth time in the game drawing the walk. From there, Hirthe found his pitch and drove it the other way. The left fielder couldn’t make the play and ball rolled toward the wall, allowing Hollenback to score.
