LSU opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. The Tigers loaded up the bases and Chris Stanfield found the open field out left to score the first run of the game. They’ll tack on two more before Arkansas starter Zach Root gets pulled from the mound. His 1.2 innings pitched tied his shortest career start. Root gave up three runs on two hits and walked two with two strikeouts. Sophomore Gabe Gaeckle took over after that and LSU closed out the frame with a 3-0 lead. Both teams came up empty over the next three innings. Then, the Razorbacks breakthrough in the bottom of the sixth thanks to solo shot to right field from Reese Robinett. It was his third home run of the season, and it couldn’t have come at a better time, 3-1 LSU. Gaeckle was phenomenal in relief. He struck out the side in the top of the seventh inning and set a new career high with nine strikeouts. The sophomore got one more in the next inning to finish the game with 10 strikeouts and allowed just a single run on three hits. The Tigers tacked on another run in the eighth to go up 4-1 on the Hogs.
