The Los Angeles Dodgers made a roster move ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Washington Nationals.

The Dodgers recalled right-handed pitcher Will Klein and optioned right-handed pitcher Jack Little.

Little made his Major League debut Thursday night against the San Diego Padres. The rookie right-hander plunked Fernando Tatis Jr. in the hand, which caused both benches to clear.

Manager Dave Roberts was ejected after the scuffle, and he explained why he was so upset about the Padres’ reaction to Little’s pitch.

“I’m taking starters out of the game, trying to get this game over with and get this kid a couple innings,” Roberts explained. “And so that’s why I felt, I took that personal. Because I understand the game, and I understand that it doesn’t feel good to get hit. But understand again, intent versus clearly no intent.”

Little gave up two earned runs on four hits across two innings of work.

Klein was traded to the Dodgers in a rare one-for-one trade with the Seattle Mariners. Dodgers minor league pitcher Joe Jacques was the return.

Klein was designated for assignment by the Mariners on May 31. The right-hander has not made a Major League appearance this season. With the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers, he produced a 7.17 ERA with 32 strikeouts and three saves across 22 appearances.

The Dodgers get a fresh arm with the arrival of Klein, who will likely make his first MLB appearance of the season against the Washington Nationals.
