SACRAMENTO — Guardians’ assistant hitting coach Jason Esposito is leaving the club to become hitting coach for the University of Vanderbilt.
The Guardians did not comment on the move Friday.
Esposito has been a coach in the Guardians’ organization since 2018. He was named assistant hitting coach after the 2024 season. In 2023 and 2024 he was Cleveland’s run production coordinator.
He joined the Cleveland organization as the hitting coach for Class A Mahoning Valley in 2018. He also spent two seasons as the hitting coach for Triple-A Columbus in 2021 and 2022.
The Orioles drafted Esposito, 34, in the second round in 2011 out of Vanderbilt. He played in Baltimore’s minor league system from 2012-15.
Right now it’s unclear if Esposito will finish the season with the Guardians or immediately join Vanderbilt, whose season has ended.
The Guardians’ hitting team consists of hitting coach Grant Fink, Dan Puente and Josh Tubbs. In the front office, Alex Eckelman is the senior vice president of hitting and Nate Friedman is the vice president of hitting.
