A high school baseball player hitting a home run isn’t exactly rare, but it’s not exactly commonplace, either.
St. Joseph senior center fielder homered 10 times during the 2025 season.
Furness is the All-Mountain League Baseball Team MVP. Lompoc senior Jack Jones culminated an illustrious four-year pitching career on the Lompoc varsity by setting the Lompoc career strikeouts record and earning the league’s Pitcher of the Year award. Jones has signed with Cal State Northridge.
Besides leading the Knights in home runs, Furness led the team in RBIs with 30 and in doubles with seven. Furness was second on the team in hits with 32, behind only first baseman Ashton Bluem who had 34. Furness was fourth on the team in batting average at .323.
St. Joseph finished 24-8 overall, 13-2 in the Mountain League and won the league championship by four games under first-year head coach Erik Morrison. The Knights lost 9-8 in nine innings to Bakersfield Centennial in the CIF Central Section Division 1 championship game and went out in the first round of the Southern Cal Division 1 Regional playoffs with a 6-3 loss to San Dimas.
Jones finished his career at Lompoc with 335 strikeouts and took down the 54-year old school record that former big leaguer Roy Thomas had held. Jones pitched a perfect game his sophomore year.
Lompoc went out in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Central Section Division 2 playoffs. Â
Bluem, a sophomore, is one of four St. Joseph players on the All-Mountain League First Team. The others are sophomore pitcher/outfielder Mason Majewski, junior infielder Connor Chanley and senior pitcher Niko Peinado.
Peinado went 8-2 as a pitcher with a 1.81 ERA. Chanley was second on the team and first among regulars in batting average at .337. Majewski was 8-2 with a 2.71 ERA as a pitcher.
