The Texas Rangers have placed first baseman Jake Burger on the injured list with a left oblique strain, the team announced today. To take his place on the active roster, the Rangers have recalled infielder Justin Foscue.

Burger left yesterday’s game with what was reported to be soreness in his left side, so him going on the injured list was fairly predictable. He’s slashing .220/.253/.403 on the year, which is not the line the Rangers were hoping for when they acquired him, although he has slashed .243/.270/.456 in 35 games since he was sent to the minors for a reset.

Foscue is slashing .269/.360/.487 in 50 games this year for Round Rock, and while he was initially hot after coming off the minor league injured list in early June, he is currently on a 1 for 17 streak at AAA. He ended last season on an 0 for 39 streak in the majors, and if he is hitless in his next major league at bat, he will be just the 17th player in MLB history to go hitless in 40 straight ABs. The 16th player to do it was, of course, Joc Pederson, earlier this year.
