The New York Mets are experiencing how quickly a baseball team can fall in the standings. After having the NL’s best record earlier in June, they no longer lead their division.

The Philadelphia Phillies are one game ahead of them atop the NL East after beating them 10-2 on Friday night. New York has lost seven straight games and has been outscored 22-3 in its last three. However, the team can reclaim the division lead with wins over Philadelphia on Saturday and Sunday, as well as regain ground in the NL standings.

The front office acquired a former New York Yankee before Saturday’s matchup, via MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo.

“The Mets signed infielder Pablo Reyes, who was briefly in the organization last year, to a minor league contract and sent him to [Triple-A] Syracuse,” he reported. “Reyes had recently been DFA’d by the Yankees.”

Reyes slashed .194/.242/.226 with two RBI over 24 games for the Yankees this season. The journeyman owns a career slash line of .245/.305/.648 with eight homers and 56 RBI over 258 contests.

Right-handed pitcher Griffin Canning (6-3, 3.80 ERA) will start for the Mets against Phillies right-hander Mick Abel (2-0, 2.21 ERA) on Saturday night at Citizens Bank Park. The game will air on FOX at 7:15 p.m. EST.

After this series, the club will return home to host the Atlanta Braves before facing the Pittsburgh Pirates on the road.

After that, it will go home again to face the Milwaukee Brewers and Yankees before hitting the road to play the Baltimore Orioles and Kansas City Royals.
