High school baseball, softball and lacrosse state finals
Well, good evening. State championship Saturday for spring sports and *** memorable one in many communities that came home with thrilling championships today. Let’s start with Class *** baseball. Underdog Bitterford taking on Mount Erant. The Eagles took the lead with *** 3-run second, then the Tigers responded in the 3rd. Gavin Haggett crushes the 2-run triple. He later scored to tie it up. Mount Eat comes right back in the top of the 4th. Aidan Ramsey singles up the middle. That’ll score Caden Chase from second base. Later in the inning, Chase will score on *** 2-run double to left field by Jesse Bakker, and it was 6 to 3 Mount *** at the Eagles looking for their first state championship. They played it back in 2004. But Bitterford gets 2 runs back. When Dom Smith, perfect placement, the bloop single to right field. The Tigers manufactured 2 runs in the 6th to take the lead. In the 7th, the Eagles trying to get *** rally going, but Peyton Blace with the incredible catch in left field for Bitterford, they hang on to win it 7 to 6. Bitterford didn’t even make the playoffs last year, and they win their first title since 1984. We just could never get down. I, I was always trying to keep people up and not let us get down, and it worked out. We always put, we put, uh, some rallies together and it just like every emotions running through us right now, and, uh, I’m, I’m feeling like *** million bucks right now. The Class B final had Greely facing Ellsworth up in Oro. Rangers down 3-0 in the sixth. It’s Kyle Soul getting Greely on the board with the RBI single. They were down 5-1 with two outs in the seventh. Owen Pisak singles in *** run. The rally is on. After *** walk forced in *** run, it’s Soul, who was the hero in the regional championship, plays two more, and we’re all tied up. They would take the lead on *** double steal, and Silas Almy, who came in and had *** clutch relief outing. Gets the final out. Greeley wins it 6 to 5, the first title since 2015 and the fifth for Derek Soul, the head coach. Class C baseball, Monmouth Academy and Washington Academy of East Machias. Mustangs built the lead thanks to some walks and errors. In the 6th, Zane Foy, the RBI single, knocks in Noah Schultz. It’s 8-1 Mustangs. Then in the 7th, Rory Foyt triples to right field. That knocks in Wade Gibbons, and Kyle LePage was *** star on the mound, goes the disc. Since Monmouth captures the Sea Championship 9 to 1 over Washington Academy, the second title in three years for the Mustangs. Class D final had Saint Dom’s in its final game as *** school facing Bangor Christian. Top of the first, Nolan Cavers with *** two run single to give Saint Dom’s the lead. Top of the 3rd, bases loaded, Vogan LeClaire would step to the dish. Of course Saint Dom’s needed 11 innings to get to this game, winning the regional championship. That is gonna lead to *** 5-1. Lead for the Saints in the fifth. Kessel win with the RBI single to center. Saint Dom’s builds *** 9-1 lead. The Patriots though would make it interesting, pulling within 9-6, but Ben Dume gets the final out. 96 Saint Dom’s, their fourth straight state championship in the final game for the school. Hey, how about some softball? Class *** softball. Wyndham facing Edward Little. First inning. Adie Chiazza went off with *** triple and then scores on the bunt single by Stella Jarvis. 1-0. Windham goes on top. Later in the first, Gianni Kostopoulos going deep into the gap. That’s gonna be *** double. Oakley McCloud scores win them up 2 to 0. In the second, Chiazzo doing more damage the single to center, knocks in Kyla Harvey, 3-0 Eagles. In the third, Kostopoulos, another big hit, drives one to right. That’s gonna knock in Abahisha, Jane, and Kennedy Kimball, the distance with the shut out 70 win him the 2nd title in 3 years for the Eagles. Mada Mc Valley and her. Playing in the B championship up at U Maine, scoreless until the 5th. Kendall Simmons tripled and then scores on the Grace Haveer single, and Madonic has the lead. The Hawks would have *** good chance to tie it later, but Sydney Nichols, the story of this tournament, the strikeout, she struck out 12, allowed only 3 hits for another shutout. She did it again. She did it in the regional championship, and Madonic is your state champion with *** 1-0 win over Herman. Class C softball, 4 time defending champ Halldale facing Bucksport. Bulldogs down 2-0 in the third when Jade Graham, so many clutch hits coming off of her bat in her career. She’s gonna drive in Sofia Merch. It’s *** one-run game. Bucksport puts the game away in the 6th though. Jetta hook, singles up the middle, and that will knock in 2 runs to extend the lead. Hallalle would get one last chance in the 7th, but Lexi Raymond catches the final out, and Bucksport wins the C Championship 6-2 over Hallalle. Class D final had Buckfield facing Penobscot Valley. Bucks up 1-0. In the 4th, and they add to it when Taylor Harvey singles up the middle of the knock in 2 more in the top of the 7th, Britney Carrier drives one deep to right and it ends up being *** 2 run inside the park home run. Karmer Crockett did the job on the mound, striking out. 16 allowing just one hit. 5-0 Buckfield win their first title since 2008. Now the state lacrosse championships at Fitzpatrick Stadium, the *** Boys game featuring Falmouth and Thornton Academy. Falmouth looking to cap an undefeated season and go back to back. Facing *** Thornton team they beat twice during the regular season, Thornton came out hot though. Ben White to Will Edberg. TA would go up 3-0. Later on in the second, Jack DeLeo scores twice in this game, and Thornton’s up 4-1 in the second. Final seconds of the half. Geo Garrett from downtown beats the buzzer. Falmas down 4-2. They’d actually come back and tie it in the 3rd, but Trojan goalie Colin Pendle was *** wall. Some amazing saves keeping Thornton in the lead and then off the face of Grady Hersey walks in to make it 64 Thornton. They win the state championship 8 to 6 in *** big upset. They lost both games by *** by *** combined 36 to 13. They hand Falmouth their first loss of the year. All right, Class *** Girls Championship, Wyndham in its first title game against *** Kennebunk team playing in its 11th championship. Wyndham. Early on, Abby Traynor sneaks in. It’s 4-0 Windham. Katie Bunk answers. Cameron Keene in one of her three goals. It’s 4-1. Under 20 seconds left in the half. Check this out. Nev Ledbetter to Grace Jolly cutting in front, 7-4 Eagles. Wyndham dominated the beginning of the second half. Ledbetter, another assist to trainer. She had 5 goals, and then Ledbetter, 1 more assist this time to Jolly, they go up 10 5. Then *** wicked one timer from Roy Brooklyn Roy, she had *** hat trick. 12 to 9. Wyndham captures its first ever state championship in girls’ lacrosse. It’s surreal. I honestly, I’m speechless, but we got flooded with emotion when we all ran down there, all huddled, everyone’s sobbing because we just put so much effort into that win and it feels so good. Class B title game for the boys rematch of last year, York and Yarmouth. This one won last year by the Clippers looking to go back to back. York takes the lead early. Evan Ennati, the tough goal for the Wildcats, but the other way, Ian Minahan, he had 5 goals, and Hay and Yo, the game winner and over. 1413, Yarmouth wins it. They beat the Wildcats in OT for the second straight year in the championship game. Girls beat title game Freeport in the championship for the 4th time in 5 years against Mount Ett in their second title game appearance. Pretty one timer from Ella Tracy and the Falcons go up 4-1. Freeport goes on *** run in the 2nd half. Emma White puts the Falcons up 9. 6, but Mount Ara comes right back with two quick ones. Evelyn Goudreau, what *** game she had 5 goals. Her team’s down 9 to 8 in the 4th. But Lena Derusso, through traffic, her 4th of the game extends the lead, and Freeport is *** state champion 11 to 9. Falcons win win the title after losing in the championship last year, capping *** great day of high school.
