On Wednesday, the Roswell Invaders faced off against the Pecos Bills for a one-game series.
The Invaders entered the game with a 4-14 record. They are coming off a two-game series against the Garden City Wind, in which the Invaders lost both matchups with tallies of 11-5 and 15-6, respectively. The Bills came in with a 12-7 record. Their last series was four games against the Santa Fe Fuego, in which the Bills went 3-1. The Invaders and the Bills faced off three times previously, with the Bills winning two out of three.
The game started out with great defensive performances by both teams. Both offenses scored only one run in the first four innings. In the fifth and sixth innings, the Invaders scored three straight runs to go up 4-1. After this, the Bills outscored the Invaders 5-2 before the end of the ninth inning to tie the game up and send it into extra innings.
The Bills continued their momentum by scoring two runs in the top of the 10th inning to go up 8-6. The Bills defense would hold the Invaders to no runs in the bottom of the 10th and scored the win with a tally of 8-6. The Invaders’ record fell to 4-15, while the Bills jumped to 13-7.
The Invaders had a total of 12 hits and were walked 10 times. Maikol Perez (44) had the most hits on the team with four, with one of those hits being a home run. On defense, the Invaders committed no errors. Ervis Solis (39) would be the starting pitcher, and he pitched 6.0 innings, struck out eight batters, walked six and allowed six hits and one run. Four other pitchers would finish the game, with Nester Perela (23) marked the losing pitcher.
The Bills would get 10 hits, and were walked 13 times. Jacob Adams (8) and Jayden Terres (2) would lead the Bills in hits with two each. On defense, the Bills would commit two errors. Phillip Jones (50) would be the starting pitcher, and he pitched 6.0 innings, struck out seven batters, walked four and allowed eight hits and four runs. The other pitchers would finish the game, with Jonathon LaGuire (21) being the winning pitcher.
Roswell is currently on a road trip. The Invaders finished a three-game series against the Tucson Saguaros on Saturday night in Tucson, Arizona. In the first game on Thursday night, Roswell lost 7-6 to Tucson. On Friday night, the Invaders fell 28-9. A final score from Saturday’s game was not available at press time. On Monday, Roswell travels to play a doubleheader against the Alpine Cowboys in Alpine, Texas. The first game starts at 3 p.m.
The Invaders’ next home series is two games against the Alpine Cowboys starting Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
