The Mediapolis High School baseball team has had a dominating season thus far.
The Bulldogs, ranked sixth in Class 2A, started the season 15-1, including 7-0 in the SEI Super Conference South Division. The Bulldogs’ lone loss was a 13-3 setback to 10th-ranked Dyersville Beckman on May 31 in Beckman’s tournament.
Mediapolis was rewarded for its effort when the Iowa High School Athletic Association released its Class 1A and 2A district pairings on Wednesday afternoon.
Mediapolis will receive a first-round bye and will host the winner of a quarterfinal game between West Liberty and Camanche in a Class 2A district semifinal game at 7 p.m. July 8 at the Mediapolis Athletic Complex.
Also receiving byes in Substate 4 are Northeast, Dyersville Beckman and Marquette Catholic.
Durant and Tipton will square off in the other quarterfinal game in District 7 at 7 p.m. July 5 at Durant.
Clayton Ridge, Waukon, MFL MarMac and Postville join Dyersville Beckman and Marquette Catholic in District 8.
In Class 2A Substate 5, Central Lee (10-2 overall, 4-2 South Division) received a first-round bye and will face the winner of the quarterfinal game between Winfield-Mount Union/Columbus and Wilton in a District 9 semifinal game at 5 p.m. July 8 at Chariton.
West Burlington and Louisa-Muscatine will face off in the other District 9 quarterfinal game on July 5 at Wilton. The winner will play fifth-ranked Chariton at 7 p.m. July 8 at Chariton.
Interstate-35 and Cardinal received byes in District 10 in the bottom half of Substate 5.
Albia, Central Decatur, Davis County and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont round out District 10.
CLASS 1A
All five area teams will compete in District 10. Second-ranked Sigourney is the top seed in District 9 and received the only bye.
New London will host a pair of district quarterfinal games on July 5. Notre Dame will take on Keota at 5 p.m. and New London will play Wapello at 7 p.m. The winners will meet in a semifinal game at 7 p.m. July 8.
At Moravia on July 5, Van Buren County will play Pekin at 5 p.m. and Danville will take on Moravia at 7 p.m. The winners will square off in a semifinal game at 7 p.m. July 8.
Montezuma, Lone Tree, Highland, English Valleys, Hillcrest Academy and HLV join Sigourney in District 9.
